But your chimney may be hiding a danger. Every year across the country, many homes have chimney fires. The Mt. Lebanon Fire Department recommends you have us inspect your chimney and wood-burning equipment before you light a fire.
A trained member of the fire department staff will come to your home and make sure your equipment is safe, and if he or she finds problems, the staff member will recommend you have a certified chimney sweep perform a thorough check. The fire department inspects between 80 and 100 residential fireplaces each year.
