Designated by the National Arbor Day Foundation in recognition of our maintaining a budget for tree planting and maintenance, establishing a parks advisory board to oversee trees and holding an annual Arbor Day Celebration. Continuous award since 2006.

The department received an ISO Class 1 rating during its latest evaluation, in July 2021. Mt. Lebanon is one of only four departments in Pennsylvania, and one of only approximately 500 nationally, to have achieved this status. The department had a Class 3 rating from 1988-2013.
The CFAI Accreditation Program is a comprehensive self-assessment and evaluation model that enables fire and emergency service organizations to examine past, current and future service levels and performance and compares them to industry best practices. The fire department was initially accredited in 2012 and re-accredited in 2017 and 2022. The department is one of 336 accredited departments in the county and one of only four in Pennsylvania.

Certified silver by Sustainable Pittsburgh in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Municipal League “for employing sustainable policies and practices.”
Mt. Lebanon received a Safe Communities America designation from the National Safety Council. To get the accreditation, Mt. Lebanon was required to document its unified, community-based approach to preventing injuries and death and commit to consistent improvement in the future.

Mt. Lebanon is a Level 1 Accredited Arboretum, which means we are dedicated to increasing species diversity and specimen tree plantings in the municipality’s parks, parklets and traffic islands, with the long-term goals of enhancing the character, resiliency and visual appearance of the community.
