Mt. Lebanon Police plan many special events throughout the year. We have opportunities for people of all ages to meet us and develop a relationship of mutual trust and understanding. Our Community Outreach Unit works hard, often in cooperation with other first responders, to make these events special.

2026 APPLICATION NOW OPEN. DEADLINE TO APPLY IS FRIDAY, MARCH 6, 2026.

The Mt. Lebanon Police Department is proud to offer a Citizens Police Academy to the Mt. Lebanon community. This engaging and informative program is designed to increase understanding of the Police Department’s operations and to allow community members the opportunity to interact with our outstanding personnel. Topics covered include patrol operations, use of force, the K-9 program, narcotics, traffic laws, firearms, the CIRT team, crime scene processing, detective investigations, and much more.

Students will participate in informative classroom-style presentations as well as practical demonstrations with a variety of Police Department personnel. Activities include a police facility tour, a simulated traffic stop exercise, firearms instruction at the shooting range, fingerprinting and crime scene investigation, and a police K-9 demonstration. Each student will also be given the opportunity to go on a ride-along with a police officer at the conclusion of the Academy.

Instructors are drawn from all areas in the department. Students will meet the Chief of Police, supervisors, patrol officers, detectives and other department employees. We encourage students to ask questions and express their concerns about pertinent issues. A major goal of the Citizens Police Academy is to increase understanding between our citizens and the Police Department, and to enhance the strong relationships we have with the community. While the academy will give students a better understanding of how the police department is organized, the services we provide, and how we serve the community, it is not based on a traditional police academy. The program is not designed to prepare students to be police officers or provide training in the field of law enforcement.

2026 CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

All classes run from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Mt. Lebanon Public Safety Building, 555 Washington Road, unless otherwise noted.

WEEK 1 (March 25) – Introduction with Chief Haberman / Public Safety Building Tour

WEEK 2 (April 1) – Patrol Operations / Field Training

WEEK 3 (April 8) – Defensive Tactics / Use of Force

WEEK 4 (April 15) – Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) – Tactical and Negotiators

WEEK 5 (April 22) – Firearms and Less-lethal Weapons *at the Mt. Lebanon Firing Range

WEEK 6 (April 29) – Traffic Services Unit / Professional Standards Unit

WEEK 7 (May 6) – K-9 Bear / Drone Demos

WEEK 8 (May 13) – Virtual Reality Police Simulator / Scenarios *at South Fayette Police Station

WEEK 9 (May 20) – Investigative Support Unit

WEEK 10 (May 27) – Crime Scene / Graduation

Application Process and Forms

Prospective participants for the Citizens Police Academy must:
• Live or work in Mt. Lebanon
• Be at least 18 years old
• Have no felony convictions, outstanding warrants, or pending criminal cases

All applicants will be required to submit to a criminal background check before acceptance into the Academy.
If you are interested in joining us, submit an application today! Application forms are available online, at the rear vestibule of the Public Safety Center, 555 Washington Road, and at the front desk of the municipal building, 710 Washington Road.

Completed applications must be returned to the MLPD community outreach unit by email to Cpl. Ty Kegarise (below), by mail to Mt. Lebanon Police Department, 555 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15228 or by hand at the MLPD records department on the third floor of the public safety building. Mt. Lebanon Police Department Classic Car Show

Classic cars displayed on Washington road

Every July, the department sponsors the best car show in the area. Stay tuned for the 2026 dates.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the 600 and 700 blocks of Washington Road. Interested in participating? Print out the registration form (to come) and return it by mail to Mt. Lebanon Police Crime Prevention Unit, 555 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15228.

The event is free to the public and includes classic cars, food, vendors and live music.

Car Show Vendors

Vendors can apply to be part of our event. All proceeds from this show go to Police youth programs

Rules for vendor participation:

The cost for a booth/location is a $40 non-refundable registration fee.

The Car Show is a rain or shine event. No rain date.

It is the responsibility of the vendor to bring all materials needed to set up your booth.

We cannot guarantee electric power. If electric is needed YOU MUST NOTIFY US PRIOR TO THE SHOW!

All vendors are responsible for clean-up of their booth area.

Please arrive between 8AM and 9AM day of show to set up booth.

Vendors are allowed advertising such as mascots, coupon distribution, etc. Show officials reserve the right to deny any activities deemed inappropriate.

Show officials reserve the right to make all final decisions concerning booth location, etc.

Booth reservations will be made on a first come, first served basis.

Booth/location size is the equivalent of an 8 foot long table.

Public Safety Camp

Each summer, the MLPD, Mt. Lebanon Fire Department, Medical Rescue Team South, and Mt. Lebanon Recreation Department offer a weeklong day camp that exposes children to police, fire, and EMS services in a fun and interactive environment.

The camp includes lessons in cooking safety, pool safety, first aid, CPR, and weather safety, as well as demonstrations in fire hose operations, rope rescue scenarios, patient packaging, and vehicle rescue. Participants also get a chance to explore in a police car, fire truck, ambulance, bomb squad vehicle, and 911 van.

Public Safety Camp is offered to children ages 9 to 12 years old, and is held each summer during the last week of July between the hours of 9 am and 12 pm.
