Emergencies & Non-Emergencies: CALL 9-1-1

Mt. Lebanon utilizes Allegheny County’s 9-1-1 Communications Center for all emergency and non-emergency call taking and dispatching of police, fire and EMS services.  Based on the capabilities of the County Communications Center, calling 9-1-1 is no longer reserved for emergencies only.  Whenever you need to meet with or talk to a police officer, firefighter or paramedic, please call 9-1-1 and explain your situation to the call taker.  The computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system used by the Communications Center personnel will prioritize your call and send it to the telecommunicators for dispatching to the appropriate public safety personnel.  Don’t worry…your question about a lost cell phone will not trump a more pressing call that may require a more timely response.  As soon as the emergency calls are cleared, an officer will get in touch with you.

For other matters that do not require an immediate response, feel free to use the contact numbers below.  Please be aware that these numbers ring to phones located at officer’s desks.  Most of the officers work rotating schedules with a variety of days off, therefore it may take a few days for them to get back to you.  Again, if your question or concern requires a more timely response, call 9-1-1 and ask to speak to an on-duty MLPD Officer.

Commendations:

The MLPD encourages commendations for personnel who perform their duties admirably.

Commendations can consist of an appreciative phone call to the employee’s supervisor, or an email or letter sent to Police Administration.

Emails or letters should describe the location and events of the incident along with the Officer’s name and badge number (if available).

If you wish to commend an officer for a job well done, please have ready the name of the officer, date, time, and type of incident (if possible), and contact the Officer’s Supervisor in one of the following ways:

Complaints:

The MLPD is dedicated to providing its citizens with effective and professional law enforcement services. A positive relationship between the police and the public, fostered by trust and confidence, is essential to the provision of such services.

While the police are charged with the vigorous and often difficult task of enforcing laws, they must meticulously observe the rights of all persons. At the same time, police personnel must be free to take action in a reasonable, lawful and impartial manner without fear of reprisal.

For these reasons, the MLPD has instituted provisions for the prompt receipt, investigation and disposition of complaints regarding the conduct of members of the department. Please note that you may remain anonymous when filing a complaint.

Your valid concerns and criticisms help us protect the community from possible misconduct by employees. At the same time, a thorough and impartial investigation helps protect employees from unwarranted charges when they perform their duties properly.

Allegations of serious misconduct against members of the MLPD will be investigated under the direction of the Chief of Police, and may involve external investigators.
