Youth Basketball League Boys and Girls

Mt. Lebanon Youth Basketball offers all kids a chance to learn the fundamentals of the game, play in a team-oriented style, make friends and have fun. Teams practice each week, play games on the weekend, and for the 4th graders on up the season culminates in a tournament. Parents, don’t miss your chance to coach. More than 900 players participated last year, so be assured, there is plenty of action to be had on the courts.

Teams will be formed based on the number of participants and volunteer coaches. Some grades may have to be combined. Every effort will be made to form teams according to neighborhood schools for 2nd – 5th grades only. We cannot guarantee that special requests will be honored for friends, coaches and carpools or that all players will be from the same school. 6th – 8th grade teams are formed by a draft system in which every player makes it on a team.

Each team will have one practice and one game per week. Coaches will choose their teams practice day and time at the coaches meeting. Practices are typically 50 minutes long between 6-9pm. Games will be played on Friday evenings between 6-9pm or Saturdays between 8am and 6pm and last one hour.

For 2nd and 3rd grade divisions: Lower 8 1/2 foot baskets are used. Ball size is 27.5″ Junior ball.

For 4th through 8th grade divisions: 10 foot baskets are used. 4th – 8th grade girls and 4th and 5th grade boys use a 28.5″ ball. 6th – 8th boys use official size 29.5″ ball.

DRAFT DAY: For participants in 6th – 8th grade only. This is not a try out. All registrants are drafted and make a team. Participants attend the draft and go through some drills and scrimmaging.
