Electronic Equipment Recycling Drop-Off

The Mt. Lebanon Commission enacted an ordinance prohibiting certain electronic devices from the curbside trash stream. The ordinance is based on Pennsylvania’s Covered Device Recycling Act. Covered devices are defined as “covered computer and television devices marketed and intended for use by consumers.” This includes keyboards, printers and any other device that connects to a computer or television. Although not specifically included in the state law, the ordinance Mt. Lebanon has enacted to comply with the act extends to include cell phones. Effective September 1, 2011 residents may no longer put televisions, computers, printers and various other electronic devices out with the regular trash. Recycling electronic items keeps them out of the landfill and decreases the amount of heavy metals that leach into the ground. Website about PA TV recycling.

We accept one TV per vehicle free of charge.

In cooperation with the Mt. Lebanon Public Works Department, JVS Environmental offers an electronic items disposal service to the residents and businesses of Mt. Lebanon. Most electronic devices will be recycled free of charge. Items with refrigerant $25, light bulbs are $2/each (cash or check only). Any covered devices left out for trash or recycling pick-up will be tagged unsuitable for pick-up by our contractor, and must be removed from the curb. Residents can bring items to the public works yard, located at 1250 Lindendale Drive (off Cedar Blvd) on scheduled Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

When preparing your material for pick-up, please follow these guidelines:

  • All dirt and debris should be removed from the roots of shrubs. Soil, rocks, leaves, grass clippings and ornamental grasses will not be picked up.
  • Small branches should be gathered into piles (not bound) not exceeding 24 inches in diameter and 48 inches in length. Large tree limbs should be no longer than 6 feet in length and no thicker than 5 inches in diameter.
  • The total amount put out for any one pickup should not exceed more than can be placed into a single pickup truck (4′ x 4′ x 8′).

If the above guidelines are not followed, the materials will be deemed non-collectible and left at the curbside.
